Wanzl accepts commercial responsibility for the environment.
CO2 emissions reduced long-term!
Wanzl registers continually expanding production with growth rates in double figures, currently manufacturing 1.8 million shopping trolleys each year. Despite this increase in production, Wanzl has managed to reduce energy consumption and emissions of CO2, responsible for climate change, at its German site.
CO2 emissions were also reduced in electroplating through continual monitoring of the bath parameters.
These reductions were achieved through professional environmental management which continually compares target figures with the actual data. This allows Wanzl to react quickly to deviations and introduce counter-measures.
Compared with last year, the result – despite increased production and growing employee numbers – equals a 1% reduction in required heating energy from fossil fuels, a 1% decline in fuel consumption, and a fall of over 110,000 kg in annual CO2 emissions.
Most of the power required is used for the production process in electroplating, in the paint dipping system and in powder coating, because for quality assurance and control reasons Wanzl performs surface processing in-house. The heat generated during production is re-used to heat the production halls in an environmentally friendly way. In addition, our employees are regularly trained to use energy sensibly and are provided with energy-saving tips for their daily work.
For example, PC monitors automatically switch themselves off from standby mode when unused for 5 minutes. This change to workstations alone has allowed Wanzl to reduce its annual CO2 emissions by 11,300 kg. The continually increasing recycled proportion of recyclable materials used, particularly steel, contributes to an annual CO2 reduction of over 9.5 million kg.
The recycling ratio itself is also exemplary: at 72.2%, it is more than 11% above the German average. As one of the large partners of international commerce, Wanzl also feels it has a future responsibility to participate actively in the search for environmentally friendly production processes and so contribute to the protection of people and nature.
